Huskies Host Rams
Linebacker Connor Delahey is nicely settling in to his defensive role with the 2 and 1 U of S Huskies football team. Delahey, and the Huskies’ other starting outside linebacker, Nick Wiebe, each had four solo tackles (five each) in Saskatchewan’s impressive 54-27 win over Alberta in week three of the season. Delahey is a fan of the scheme that defensive coordinator Warren Muzika has put together. “The 3-4 defense, we love it. Me and Nick Wiebe get a chance to run off the edge and blitz all day. It’s perfect. I’m really comfortable off the edge.” Huskies coach Scott Flory says Delahey, who played for the Saskatoon Hilltops prior to joining the Huskies, has made a successful jump to the university game. “He’s just so physical. He feels the game really well.” Delahey admitted there was a transition from the CJFL to USports football when he joined the Huskies in 2019. “I’m getting a lot more comfortable. The game is slowing down. I’m starting to hit people a lot harder. It’s working out.”
The October 22nd/23rd weekend is being touted as “Rivalry Weekend” on the University of Saskatchewan campus. The Huskies’ men’s and women’s hockey teams have home and home sets with the provincial rival Cougars, while the Rams visit Griffiths Stadium for an October 23rd, 2pm kick off.
The Rams come to Saskatoon with a 1 and 2 record, after letting a 23-0 second quarter lead get away in a 31-30 overtime loss to UBC on October 16th. Delahey offered up this scouting report on the Rams. “They look like a team that likes to take a lot of shots, deep.” They have a fast running back (Kyle Borsa) that we will have to contain. They might be 1 and 2, but they could easily be 3 and 0 right now.”
The respect for the Rams is shared from the Huskies’ offensive players as well. “They’re a good team, we just watched the tape! I’m impressed with their defense” said quarterback Mason Nyhus. Rams third year linebacker Josh White leads Canada West in the Tackles For Loss category this season.
