Dinos visit Huskies to close out regular season
Now that the U of S Huskies football team has secured home field advantage throughout the Canada West playoffs, the team is focusing on defending its turf.
You can’t blame fans for wondering if head coach Scott Flory will rest some players for Saturday’s final regular season game against the Calgary Dinos at Griffiths Stadium. The Huskies will host a conference semi-final on September 13th. While there are some questions about who will dress for the final game of the regular season, Flory is doing his best to stress the importance of Calgary’s visit to the U of S campus. “Nobody is taking this week off! This is a game at home, on our turf, that we are planning to, going to, and expecting to win.”
The 2019 Vanier Cup champion Dinos have had their struggles in 2021 and may need a win to just stay in the playoff race. Calgary has hosted the last 10 Hardy Cup games, but come to Saskatoon with a 2 and 3 record. After defeating the Huskies in the season opener, the Dinos suffered consecutive losses to Regina, Manitoba and Alberta to fall to 1 and 3. The U of C rallied in their October 30th game, hammering UBC 53-14. Dinos quarterback Josiah Joseph threw for 350 yards and tossed four touchdown passes. Receiver Tyson Philpot had 214 yards in receiving and three touchdowns.
The Huskies are now assessing their health after a physical 41-12 win over Manitoba on October 30th. Adam Machart, who led the Canada West in rushing going in to week five of the season, came out in the first half with an upper-body injury. “We’re still evaluating, nothing serious though” said Flory when asked about Machart on Tuesday. “Adam went out of the game precautionarily.” Josh Ewanchyna filled is as the Huskies feature back and had 11 carries for 84 yards. “Chewy did just fine” Flory added.
