Basketball

The defending “Bronze Baby” champions are again expected to contend for the Canada West championship, but they aren’t alone. Like the Huskies women’s basketball team, the Winnipeg Wesmen have a 10 and 0 record in the east division, and the two teams meet four times with six games remaining in the regular season. The Huskies visit the Winnipeg on January 28-29, then after a road trip to visit Manitoba on the February 3-4 weekend, the U of S will host the Wesmen on February 18-19 at the PAC.

Other teams to be mindful of in the conference are Trinity Western who are 10 and 2 on top of the west division, and the central division leading Alberta Pandas at 7 and 0.

The Huskies men’s basketball team, who has the same schedule as the women’s team down the stretch, are tied with Regina at 7 and 3 at the top of the east division standings, after back to back wins over Brandon on January 21st and 22nd. The UBC men’s team is undefeated in the west division with a 13 and 0 record. Alberta tops the central division at 8 and 0.

All 17 Canada West basketball teams advance to the basketball playoffs, in both women’s and men’s competition.
