Huskies reclaim share of top spot in Canada West east division
After suffering their first loss of the season to the Winnipeg Wesmen on Friday night, the U of S Huskies women’s basketball team rallied on Saturday, defeating the Wesmen 69-53.
Bolton Ontario product, Andrea Dodig, led the way for the Huskies with 16 points on the night. The Huskies took command early at the Duckworth Centre, storming out to a 16-8 lead after the first quarter. By half time the Huskies had opened up a 12 point lead. The Huskies were also solid from the free throw line going 12 for 15.
Both teams now sit at 11 and 1 in the east division of the Canada West standings, and will meet again at the PAC on the February 18-19 weekend. Next weekend the Huskies make their way back to Manitoba to face the Bisons.
The Huskies men’s basketball team settled for a split against the Wesmen falling to Winnipeg 86-78 on Saturday night. Don Dayrit had a 20 point game, and was good on 3 three point shots in the first half. Eric Racine was Winnipeg’s leading scorer with 21 points. Alexander Dewar led the Huskies in scoring with a 23 point contest.
