Dog’s Breakfast will honour 2007 Grey Cup champion Riders in May
Members from the Huskie football Foundation announced plans for the 2022 Dog’s Breakfast on Wednesday. The 20th annual event will be held on May 5th at Prairieland Park. This year’s breakfast will pay tribute to the Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughrider team that defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 23-19 on November 25th, 2007 at Rogers Centre.
Defensive back Tad Kornegay, receiver Andy Fantuz, offensive lineman Jeremy O’Day and defensive lineman Scott Schultz from the championship team will be in Saskatoon for the breakfast. The event is a key fundraiser for player scholarships for the Huskies football team.
Schultz was asked what he remembered about that Rider team that won the Grey Cup 15 years ago. “Our camaraderie and our teamwork was better than our overall talent.” Roughriders GM Jeremy O’Day was also asked to look back at what made that team special. “We had a bunch of guys that really liked each other. It mattered to each other. We wanted to win for each other as much as our self. That’s a powerful thing.”
Another star of the 2007 Grey Cup championship team was defensive back Tad Kornegay, who spent five full seasons with the Riders. Kornegay had four interceptions, and two quarterback sacks in 61 career games with the Riders. “It felt like home, There was nothing like playing for Saskatchewan” said Kornegay from his home in New Jersey.
