Saskatchewan beats the Badgers

The 8th seeded U of S Huskies men’s basketball team posted a huge upset in the first game of the USports Final 8 championship in Edmonton on Friday, knocking off the top ranked Brock Badgers 77-73. Third year guard Marquavian Stephens led the way for Saskatchewan, pouring in 19 points. Stephens put up five crucial points in the final minute of play, and scored the game winning lay up with just five seconds remaining in the game.

Third year guard Alex Dewar had 19 points. It was a 14 point effort for fourth year guard Nervens Demosthene. The Badgers, who were 15-1 in the regular season, were led by Tajinder Lall who had 26 points, 22 came in the second half. Brock went on a 12-1 third quarter run, and turned a 48-38 deficit in to a 50-49 lead, however Saskatchewan rallied with a 26 point fourth quarter for the victory

The Huskies, who last won the USports men’s basketball championship in 2010, advance to Saturday’s 8pm semi-final with the win.
