Pearson named USports rookie of the year

Huskies’ track and field teams excel at nationals

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies’ track and field team had a strong showing at the USports championships in St. John, New Brunswick on the weekend. The women’s team finished second in team standings with 68 points, behind first place Guelph (123.5).

Meadow Lake’s Avery Pearson won the bronze medal in the women’s 600 metres in a time of 1:32.47, and was named the USports women’s rookie of the year. Pearson was also part of the women’s 4 x 400 metre relay quartet that claimed a bronze medal. Pearson and teammates Ashlyn Mooney, Paige Willems, and Kendra Farmer clocked in at 3:45.78.

Willems, Mooney, Farmer and Gracie Anderson claimed silver in the women’s 4 x 200 metre relay in a time of 1:38.69.

The Huskies men’s team finished tied for third with Western with 45 points. Guelph earned 76, while Toronto was next with 70.

Prince Albert’s Karson Lehner won a gold medal on Friday in the men’s 300 metres, in a time of 33.27. Lehner was also part of the Huskies 4 x 200 metre team that collected a silver medal with teammates Austin Edwards, Jacob Murphy and Cole Frank in a time of 1:28.43.
