Special guest to appear at Off The Leash Luncheon

Sep 1, 2022 | 10:09 AM

Ryan Getzlaf will make a special guest appearance at this year’s 13th annual Off The Leash Luncheon.

Money raised from the event will support the University of Saskatchewan Huskie Men’s Hockey Team.

A Stanley Cup champion in 2007, the Regina native was drafted 19th overall in 2003 by the Anaheim Ducks. He recently retired from a 17-year NHL career where he played 1,157 NHL games, all with the Ducks.

He is the franchise’s all-time leader in games played, assists and points. He finished his career with 282 goals, and 737 assists, for 1,019 points, and then tacked on an additional 120 points in 125 playoff games.

Internationally, the former Duck has represented Canada many times since 2003. He is a two-time Olympic champion, winning gold medals for Canada in the 2010 (Vancouver) and 2014 (Sochi, Russia) Olympics.

When asked about what it meant to have someone of Getzlaf’s stature at the Luncheon, Co-chair Kohl Bauml told HuskieFAN it came at the “perfect time, considering his roots in Saskatchewan and his recent retirement'”.

“To have a guy that I think people will be really excited to hear speak and tell some good stories, I think that can do nothing but good things for the program and for the event.”

And the importance of this event isn’t lost on Bauml and what it does for the men’s hockey team.

According to him, that’s why all hands are on deck to make it the best event possible.

“It’s the biggest fundraiser for the program. It draws a lot of people to the event which draws a lot of business and corporate sponsors to the team. It should be all systems go, excited for the event to happen and happy it’s coming together so nicely, so far.”

Everyone is invited to hear Getzlaf, meet the 2022-23 Huskie Men’s Hockey team, and enjoy a meal at Prairieland Park, Thursday, October 20th at 11:30 am.

Tickets can be found at the Off The Leash Luncheon website, where you can also find an email and a couple of phone numbers to purchase tickets that way, as well.
