Men’s Hockey

The Huskies host the Alberta Golden Bears on Friday, October 21st, and Saturday, October 22nd at Merlis Belsher Place. Both games start at 7pm.

The weekend of activity starts on Thursday, October 20th with the annual Off The Leash Luncheon. Two time Stanley Cup champions Kris Versteeg and Andrew Ladd are the guest speakers for this year’s event. Each season, proceeds from the luncheon go to scholarships for the U of S men’s hockey program.

The University of Alberta and the University of Saskatchewan have a storied Canada West rivalry. These are the only two schools that have claimed the Canada West title in the last 25 seasons. The Golden Bears have been crowned league champions 18 times since 1997, the Huskies have won seven Canada West banners.

Alberta and Saskatchewan are again at the top of the 2022-23 standings heading in to the upcoming two game showdown. The Golden Bears, who have not suffered a regulation time loss this season, have 11 points. (5 wins and an overtime loss.)

Following a weekend sweep of the Thunderbirds in Vancouver, the Huskies are a point back of the front running Golden Bears. Saskatchewan is 5 and 1 following 4-2 and 4-3 victories over the Thunderbirds.
