The countdown is on to the 2023 Dog’s Breakfast. The 21st annual event is set for Thursday May 4th at Prairieland Park. On Tuesday organizers announced that this year’s keynote speaker will be Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Marshall Faulk.

Faulk, who was a member of the 2000 Super Bowl winning champion St. Louis Rams football team, spent 13 seasons in the NFL…five with Indianapolis and seven with St. Louis. The 7-time Pro-Bowler had seven 1,000 yard rushing seasons. In his rookie year of 1994, Faulk had 1,262 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns with the Colts. The New Orleans, Louisiana product is a 7-time Pro-Bowler, the 2000 NFL MVP and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.

Not only are football fans excited to hear Faulk speak, so are members of the Huskies. “It’s really exciting”, said head coach Scott Flory. “He’s a guy who everybody can remember. He was electric..one of the best to ever play.”

The Dog’s Breakfast is not only a major annual fundraiser for scholarships for the Huskie football team, but serves as the official kick off to spring camp. “Everyone looks forward to it every year”, said veteran defensive back Charlie Ringland. “It (scholarship assistance) really changes the game for all of us athletes.”

Flory said the assistance from the Dog’s Breakfast is crucial. “You can’t compete without top end student-athletes. I’m happy with where we are at. We are in a good spot. You have to be deep across the board in football.”

After back to back appearances in the 2021 and 2022 Vanier Cup games, Flory’s focus is to lead Saskatchewan to a USports football championship in 2023. Last November, the Huskies suffered a six point defeat to the Laval Rouge et Or in London Ontario. “I don’t know if I’d do it any different”, said Flory. “Our guys played their butts off. It’s the beauty of sports. Somebody has got to win and somebody has got to lose. We just have to find a way to minimize those mistakes and make those plays when we need to make them.”

Canadian Football Hall of Famer Glen Suitor will again serve as emcee for the 2023 Dog’s Breakfast.
