Following a split in Langley BC on the October 27th-28th weekend, the 6 and 2 Huskie women’s hockey team returns home to face the Alberta Pandas this weekend. When asked about a 4-1 Friday loss and a 4-2 Saturday victory over Trinity Western University, coach Steve Kook said “I didn’t think we played very well. We had spurts in the second game where we were better.”

However, Saskatchewan’s bench boss said he is encouraged by how some new players are transitioning to university hockey, especially defenders Makenna Stevens and Jacqueline Chief. “This weekend was good for our younger defensive crew. We played a team that was in your face all game long. There was a lot of learning for them. I actually think this might have been Jacqueline’s best overall weekend in terms of engagement.”

The 7 and 1 Pandas are strong at both ends of the ice. They have allowed just 8 goals so far this season. Offensively, Alberta is led by third year forward, Jaydynn Morden, who has 8 goals and 1 assist this season. “They move so well”, said Kook. “They are a bigger team than they have been. We are going to have to be aware and be good with our defensive zone structure.”

Friday’s game against the Pandas starts at 7:00pm at Merlis Belsher Place, Saturday’s game starts at 5:00pm. Both games can be heard on the free HuskieFAN app.
