The provincial rivalry continues

The break is over and the Huskie women’s hockey team now prepares for six straight weekends of hockey. This Friday night the Saskatchewan hosts the Regina Cougars at 7:00 pm at Merlis Belsher Place. Saskatchewan sits in fourth place in the Canada West conference with 22 points and have two games in hand on the three teams above them in standings…UBC (31 points), Alberta (30 points) and Mount Royal (28 points). If the Huskies finish the regular season in one of the top four positions, the team will play at home for the first round of the Canada West playoffs.

Despite winning just five of their first 18 games this season, the Cougars are just a point out of a playoff spot. Saskatchewan and Regina split their two regular season meetings. The Huskies blanked the Cougars 3-0 at the Co-operators on October 20th, Regina responded with a 2-0 victory at Merlis Belsher Place, the following night. The second game of this weekend’s series is set for Sunday, January 7th at 6:00 pm at the Brandt Centre in Regina.

Huskie coach Steve Kook chatted with HuskieFAN about the break, the second half of the season and this weekend’s series on the January 3rd edition of The Coach’s Show.
