Honours for Adolph
Former U of S Huskie men’s hockey coach, Dave Adolph, was recognized for his long-time contributions to university sport by being named the 2024 recipient of the Jean-Marie De Koninck Coaching Excellence Award on Wednesday afternoon.
Adolph dressed for 117 games with the U of S Huskie men’s hockey team from 1977-78 to 1982-83. The Swift Current born defender had 10 goals and 34 assists in his university career and was a member of the 1983 Saskatchewan team that defeated the Concordia Stingers 6-2 for the program’s one and only University Cup championship.
A 31-year university coaching career began with a four- year stint with the Lethbridge Pronghorns before returning to the U of S in 1993 for a 27-year run behind the Huskie bench. Adolph led the U of S to 25 consecutive post-season appearances and 16 trips to the University Cup. In 2015 he became the winningest head coach in U SPORTS history with his 377th career victory. He would go on a 488-win career before retiring in 2020.
Under Adolph the Huskies won seven Canada West titles and had three University Cup medal finishes. He was a four-time Canada West Coach of the Year and the 2017 U SPORTS Coach of the Year.
