“They will feel us on every single play.” – Scott Flory on Saturday’s opener vs. the Bisons

Aug 28, 2024 | 3:38 PM

Huskie head coach Scott Flory believes his team may have been too focused outcomes last season. Saskatchewan finished in third place with a 5 and 3 record before being eliminated in the Canada West semi-finals at the hands of the Alberta Golden Bears. A new season begins on Saturday as the U of S visits the Manitoba Bisons at 1:00 pm at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg.

Flory was asked what it will take to be successful in the season opener. “If we understand the situation and we’re prepared for it”, he said. “We are going to worry about process and understand where we are today. I don’t know what the score is going to be, but (the Bisons) will feel us on every single play.”

The Bisons finished in fourth place last season with a 3 and 5 record before falling to UBC in the Canada West semi-finals. Like the Huskies, Manitoba has several veterans returning including quarterback Jackson Tachinski who threw 10 touchdown passes and just one interception last season. Manitoba returns 11 of 12 starters on both offense and defense.

The Huskies began the 2023 season in Winnipeg last season and overcame a 25-7 deficit to defeat the Bisons 30-27. Receiver Daniel Wiebe, who returns for his fourth season of eligibility, had a pair of second half touchdowns in the football game. Last season the two schools met just once. This season the teams play twice with the return match-up set for October 4th at Griffiths Stadium.

Head coach Scott Flory chatted with HuskieFAN’s Wray Morrison about the August 31st season opener in Winnipeg.
