Under the Friday night lights at Mosaic. “We’ll be better this week.” – Scott Flory

It’s another chapter in a 25-year-old Canada West provincial football rivalry. The Huskies visit the Regina Rams on Friday night at Mosaic Stadium. Saskatchewan looks for a better road effort after a 37-24 defeat at the hands of the Manitoba Bisons in the season opener last Saturday in Winnipeg. “Give credit to Manitoba,” said head coach Scott Flory. “They jumped on us early and we didn’t match the intensity.”

Saskatchewan was held to 92 yards in rushing, the defense allowed the Bisons to score 21 points in the first 12 minutes of the football game and special teams units were unable to help the visitors flip the field. Flory admitted that his team’s offense, defense and kick teams didn’t meet the moment. “If there is a deficiency in a phase, the next phase has to be able to support and rectify and erase that as best as we can”, said Flory. “We weren’t doing that at all.”

As for Friday’s opponent, the Rams posted a 24-16 win over the Calgary Dinos last Saturday at McMahon Stadium. Regina starting quarterback Owen Sieben left the game with an injury and veteran Noah Pelletier came on in relief. Each rushed for a touchdown in the win. “They are both capable quarterbacks”, said Flory. “We’ve got to be ready for both of them.”

The head coach believes it is imperative for his team to dictate play in the provincial capital, especially on offense against a Rams team that had three interceptions against Calgary. “We can’t make it about them”, Flory said. “We’ve got win the line of scrimmage and be good with the football. We’ll be better this week.”
