Huskie head coach previews season with HuskieFAN

There will be a mix of veterans and young players on the Huskie women’s hockey team this season. Head coach Steve Kook says there will be eight 4th-year players on the roster and 12 players that will be in either their first or second year with the program. One of the newcomers will be goaltender Clara Juca from New Westminster. The Huskies will go with three goaltenders this year as Juca will be joined by returnees Colby Wilson and Emma Backman.

Kook is excited about the team’s mobility on defense. First year blueliner Julianna Herman, from The Pas, Manitoba, is an NCAA transfer that will bolster a group led by some 4th-year defenders such as Kendra Zuchotski and Brooklyn Stevely.

Twins Jaiyana and Kaysah Nurani, from Calgary, join the Huskies from the Calgary Fire under-18 program. Kook says both players are good with the puck and aggressive. The forwards have been “quick and eager to learn”, according to the head coach.

The Huskies open the season in Regina on Friday, October 4th. The home opener against the Cougars is on Saturday, October 5th at 7:00 PM at Merlis Belsher Place.
