Dinos visit U of S campus for big weekend series
The team that eliminated the Huskie women’s hockey team from the Canada West women’s hockey playoffs last February returns to Merlis Belsher place this weekend. The Calgary Dinos and Huskies will both be looking for their first win of the 2024-25 season in a Friday-Saturday series in Saskatoon. The Huskies dropped a pair of one goal games to the Regina Cougars in the opening weekend of play, while UBC beat Calgary in back-to-back contests last weekend.
When asked if last season’s loss in the best-of-three quarter-final still lingers, Huskie head coach Steve Kook said it didn’t for him, but added “We have a fair contingent of Calgary players and they have a large contingent of Saskatchewan players, so maybe for them.”
With many new players on the roster, it’s meant significant change for first year players and returnees to the Saskatchewan’s lineup. “Other than 4 or 5 people, everyone is playing in different spots”, he said. That also means altering the long-term strategy this season. “Points anywhere and everywhere, that we can get, are going to be important.
