Pandas visit Huskies at Merlis Belsher Place
“You can’t win any games 0-0.” Huskie women’s hockey coach Steve Kook was reacting to the question about his team’s lack of offense so far this season. Saskatchewan has scored a total of three goals in four regular season games and four games into the season, have yet to win a game in regulation time this season.
We’ve not been terrible, we’ve just been good,” said Kook. “When you are just good, you’re just hanging on. You’re not really dominating; you’re not really owning shifts and commanding the puck. We are 50/50 on puck battles, we are 50/50 on puck races, we are 50/50 on face offs. We’re not good, were not bad, we are just hanging around.”
While frustrated, Kook says he’s not worried. “I think it’s right there. We’ve got some players that can certainly take more command of the game. It doesn’t mean you have to do everything yourself, but you have to do the things you’re good at really well. We haven’t had that yet.”
The 0-3 and 1 Huskies host the 3 and 1 Alberta Pandas in October 18th and 19th contests at Merlis Belsher Place. “They’re a program that’s in a little bit of transition like us”, Kook said. “I think Alberta plays a whole lot like us. It’ll be interesting to see how our young centres and our defensive group handle that pressure up front.”
