Huskies advance to Hardy Cup

18-point fourth quarter lifts Huskies to victory

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies will host the 2024 Hardy Cup after defeating UBC 38-33 at Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver on Saturday afternoon.

Saskatchewan overcame a 33-20 second half deficit with a big fourth-quarter rally. Lukas Scott kicked a 24-yard field goal to cut the Thunderbird lead to 10. With the score 33-24, Huskie receiver, Ercy Avul, hauled in a 33-yard pass from Anton Amundrud to help the Huskies pull to within two points with a minute remaining. Saskatchewan got the ball back after a succesful on-side kick from kicker Lukas Scott. Running back Ryker Frank then capped off a 52-yard drive with a one-yard score with 29 seconds remaining in the football game. Frank finished with 199 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Riece Kack, John Stoll and Charlie Parks registered sacks for the Huskies. Amundrud had 381 yards in passing and one touchdown, while receiver Rhett Vavra caught 13 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown. Back up quarterback Jake Farrell threw a first half touchdown toss to Rhett Vavra.

The Huskies will host the Regina Rams in the 2024 Hardy Cup on Saturday, November 9th at 1:00 PM at Griffiths Stadium. The Rams, who finished with a 3 and 5 regular season pulled out a last second, 28-25, win over the first-place Manitoba Bisons in Winnipeg in Saturday’s other Canada West semi-final.
