The 2nd annual Huskie Athletics Women of Influence Breakfast, Presented by TD, is set for Tuesday, February 11th at TCU Place. The event, which raises money for University of Saskatchewan women athletes, will again feature a Canadian Olympian. Humboldt product, Paige Crozon, from Canada’s national 3×3 women’s basketball team, will be the keynote speaker.

The first-of-its-kind breakfast, which was held in February of 2024, welcomed U of S Graduate and former Olympian Diane Jones-Konihowski back to Saskatchewan. Jones-Konihowski was a decorated track and field athlete who competed at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games. “It was really interesting to hear Diane’s story”, said Huskie Chief Athletics Officer, Shannon Chinn. “When she competed, there wasn’t financial assistance for her. It was hard. It opened the eyes of our student-athletes. I think it made them appreciate the donors and supporters that our programs have.”

Chinn is thankful for a group of local volunteers who helped get the 2024 Women of Influence Breakfast off the ground. “Our first meeting was 75 days out”, she said. “It was a bunch of women who saw a need and were really passionate about women in leadership. As soon as we were done that breakfast, they were ready to start planning the next one.

Crozon, who after high school went on to play at the University of Utah, has had a decorated post-university basketball career with Team Canada. Not only did she represent her country at the Paris Olympic Games but in December of 2024, she returned from Puerto Rico where Canada won the FIBA 3×3 Women’s AmeriCup title. She has also served as an assistant coach with the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns and CEBL’s Saskatchewan Rattlers. “She’s a proud Saskatchewan girl,” said Chinn. “She is excited to come home. She’s such a humble, well-rounded woman. She has a wonderful story to tell.”

Crozon, who is also manager of the Living Skies Indigenous Basketball League in Saskatchewan, had a daughter, Poppy, in 2018. She has an inspiring story to tell about keeping her basketball and Olympic dreams alive while being a parent.
