Women’s hockey and volleyball teams, at home for the January 31-February 1 weekend

Jan 29, 2025 | 3:20 PM

The Huskie women’s hockey team hosts the MacEwan Griffins on Friday and Saturday at Merlis Belsher Place.

The annual “Play For A Cure” game is on Friday night at 7:00 PM. The Huskies are playing in for teammate, Brooklyn Stevely, who battled back from cancer to return to the ice for the late stages of last season. Stevely, a fourth-year Huskie from Regina, has four points this season. Player jerseys will be auctioned off after the game and auction items will be available on the concourse at Merlis Belser Place with proceeds going to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.

The Huskies still have a mathematical chance to secure a playoff spot. There are eight games remaining on Saskatchewan’s schedule and the team sits nine points back of third-place Regina entering the weekend. The Griffins are 3-16 this season. Saturday’s MacEwan-Huskie game starts at 5:00 PM.

The Huskie volleyball teams are at home for the final time this regular season.

Saskatchewan’s men’s team puts its 11-5 record on the line against the UBC Okanagan Heat. The Huskies have been led by outside hitter Emmitt Graham leads the Canada West conference in digs and is fourth in both kills/set and hitting percentage. The UBCO Heat are sixth in the league at 9 and 7. Friday’s matches, at the PAC, start at 6:00 PM on Friday, Saturday’s action starts at 3:00 PM.

The Huskie women’s team looks to improve on its 8-8 mark against the Heat. Saskatchewan split Friday and Saturday matches against the Wesmen in Winnipeg on the January 24th-25th weekend. UBCO’s women’s team is 4-10. Women’s matches are at 7:30 PM on Friday and 4:30 PM on Saturday at the PAC.
