Huskies look to stay in top spot

It’s a hockey team with a share of top spot in their division with games in hand. The Huskie men’s team has set itself up nicely for the stretch run of the Canada West hockey season. With six games remaining, Saskatchewan has 36 points as does rival Alberta, however the Bears have just four games to play on their Canada West schedule.

The U of S completed a perfect 5-game home stand with back-to-back wins over the Bears during the January 24th-25th weekend. (4-3 on Friday and 4-1 on Saturday.) Veteran goaltenders Roddy Ross and Jordan Kooy each earned a win in the two-game set and the Huskies, who have the league’s best power play, scored on the man advantage in each game.

A 9-game win streak is on the line when the Huskies visit the MacEwan Griffins in January 31st and February 1st games in Edmonton. GMU has a 9-11-1-1 record this season and currently sit in the third and final playoff spot in the east division, eight points up on the Manitoba Bisons.

Huskie head coach Brandin Cote chatted with HuskieFAN’s Wray Morrison on the January 30th edition of The Coach’s Show.
