Women’s hockey team honoured with HuskieFAN season ending event

Mar 6, 2025 | 10:32 AM

It may have been earlier than planned, however the Huskie women’s hockey team took part in the annual HuskieFAN season wind up at The Flats Eatery and Drink on Wednesday night. It was time to salute the program for accomplishments both on and off the ice. Injuries posed some challenges, as only six of the team’s top ten scorers played all 28 regular season games.

Despite finishing nine points out of a playoff spot, there were several bright spots in the 2024-25 season. First year players, Jaiyana and Kaysah Nurani, (twin sisters from Calgary) made the most of their ice time. Jaiyna was sixth in team scoring while Kaysah dressed for every regular season game. Saskatchewan had several first- and second-year players that, out of necessity, logged playing time that will be beneficial in the future.

After watching and learning from one of the program’s best goaltenders last season, (Camryn Drever) fourth-year Huskie Colby Wilson carried the bulk of the load in net. The Fort St. James, BC product had four shutouts and had a 2.09 GAA in 22 appearances.

One of the highlights of the season was the annual “Play For A Cure” game on January 31st at Merlis Belsher Place. This player driven initiative, which includes a jersey and silent auction during a game, raised nearly $20,000 for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital. This year the team played for one of its own, Brooklyn Stevely, who received a cancer diagnosis in the summer of 2023 and fought back to play in the U SPORTS women’s hockey championships in Marc of 2024.

Long time HuskieFAN broadcast partner Cam Kripki of Bateman Jewellers and his wife Janice were on hand on Wednesday night to present gifts to Bronwyn Boucher and Kahlen Wisener of the Huskies for their accomplishments in academics and community involvement. “The Huskies have been a big part of Saskatoon and Saskatchewan”, said Kripki. “For us, after 80 years of being in business, to get this kind of opportunity to work with women’s hockey…we couldn’t ask for anything better.”
