The accolades continue for USask Huskie basketball player and Prince Albert product Gage Grassick. On Monday Grassick was named the winner of the 2024-25 Lois Mitchell Award, given annually to the U SPORTS Female Athlete of the Year across all sports. “I’m incredibly happy for Gage”, said Huskie women’s basketball coach Lisa Thomaidis. “Her contributions to the team, on and off the court, are immeasurable.”

Grassick had a record setting season in helping lead the Huskies to the 2024-25 “Bronze Baby” women’s basketball championship. The 4th-year Pharmacy student led the country with the best three-point shooting percentage, most three-point baskets and most assists per game. She then capped off an incredible playoff run with 35 points in the U SPORTS championship game as the Huskies defeated Carleton, 85-66, for the program’s third national title.

Thomaidis, who is overseas with Team Germany for Euro Basket said Grassick is One-Of-A-Kind. “It’s her insatiable appetite for always wanting to get better that makes her great. She has an incredible work ethic and positive attitude.”

Grassick joins Huskie Men’s Volleyball alumni Adam Ens (2004) as the only USask student-athletes to be named national athlete of the year.
