T-Birds touch down for Homecoming Game
The 2025 Homecoming Game features a clash of 1 and 0 teams as the Huskies host the UBC T-Birds on Friday night at the USask campus. The Thunderbirds opened the season with a 21-9 victory over the Manitoba Bisons on August 28th in Vancouver while Saskatchewan posted a 29-20 win over the Golden Bears in Edmonton the next night.
Despite falling behind 10-0 early and taking over 160 yards in penalties, the Huskies were able to battle back for the win. While admitting his team has to be better in certain situations he was impressed with its resilience. “I’m proud of our guys”, he said. “Nothing phased his group. We got down early and the boys handled it seamlessly and plugged out a win.”
Fifth year back, Ryker Frank, had over 160 all-purpose yards and a pair of touchdowns at Foote Field. “Your best players have to be your best players”, said Flory. “Ryker was phenomenal. It was almost a flawless game from that young man. That’s an all-Canadian running back, that’s what we expect from him.”
Saskatchewan’s defense held Alberta to just three second half points in the season opener under new defensive coordinator, Cody Halseth. “That’s a testament to Cody and his leadership”, Flory said. “The players have complete faith and buy in.” Veteran defensive lineman, Charlie Parks, had two sacks and made a big play on a Seth Hundeby pick-six in the win over the Bears. Parks is one of many members of the defensive line who like the new 4-3 defense which Halseth has implemented this season. The Huskies are deep with talent in the interior. “We have 8 or 9 guys up front that we have total faith in”, said Flory.
