Pierre Arseanault has begun his fourth season as CEO of U SPORTS. He joined the national office in 2022 after spending over a decade as the Director of Athletics at Mount Allison University. The Sackville, New Brunswick product has held several key positions with sports organizations such as the Saskatchewan Hockey Association and Hockey Canada.

When asked about his role with U SPORTS, Arsenault said “I have been very fortunate to have this opportunity. I’ve really enjoyed the work with our national office and with our U Sports team and being able to interact with 58 members across the country. The student athletes continue to thrill us every week and elevate the standard of what’s possible in Canadian University sport.”

There are several initiatives under Arsenault’s watch, including elevating the profile of Canada’s university athletes. He said Huskie basketball forward, Gage Grassick, is a model of how U SPORTS can be a conduit to further achievements. “Gage was our U SPORTS women’s (2024-25) female athlete player of the year, then she spent most of the summer playing 3×3, representing Canada with our national team. There continues to be examples everywhere of student athletes doing really doing good things in the world of sport…representing our system.”

In this conversation with HuskieFAN, Arseneault was also asked about how NCAA recruiting changes have affected Canadian men’s hockey and how the CFL’s recent announcement, altering field dimensions, may play out at the university football level in Canada.
