Huskies and Cougars renew provincial rivalry
The provincial rivalry will be renewed again this weekend at Merlis Belsher Place. The Regina Cougars visit the Huskie men’s hockey team on Friday night before the teams play again on Saturday in The Queen City.
U Sask is off to a 3 and 1 start to the season after splitting games with Mount Royal during the first weekend of the season then sweeping the Trinity Western Spartans in Langley on October 17th and 18th. The Huskies nearly let a 3-0 lead get away in the opener before pulling out a 5-4 overtime win on Conner Roulette’s winning goal. Saskatchewan blasted TWU 7-0 in the second game of the series as Chantz Petruic and Carter Stebbings had three goals each.
Saskatchewan newcomers such as Roulette, former Saskatoon Blade Ben Saunderson and goaltender Bryan Thompson are settling in nicely with the defending Canada West champions.
The Cougar program is rebuilding under new head coach Trevor Keeper. Regina is 0 and 4 to start the season but the team is lead by some talented veterans such as 4th-year forward Erik Houk and 3rd-year defender Ayden Third.
