Oct 30, 2025 | 4:22 PM

It’s win or go home football. The Canada West playoffs have arrived. U Sask (7-1) hosts the UBC Thunderbirds (3-5) in a conference semifinal matchup on Saturday. The Huskies defeated the Thunderbirds twice during the 2025 regular season, 24-10 on October 17th and 51-14 on September 5th.

T-Birds pivot Drew Viotto is averaging 248 yards in passing per game this season. The Sault Ste. Marie product led the conference with 1,984 total yards through the air in eight games. “He can throw the ball”, said head coach Scott Flory. “They’ve got playmakers…we have to win the line of scrimmage.” Veteran receivers Shemar McBean and Trey Montour both had over 700 yards in receiving in eight games.

Huskie quarterback Anton Amundrud led the conference in passing yards per game at 328.2 in the regular season however the Lloydminster product hasn’t dressed since week five due to due a week-to-week injury. “The second Anton is cleared, he’s our starter”, said Flory.

First-year starting QB Jake Farrell is 3 and 0 since taking over Saskatchewan’s offense on October 4th. Flory total confidence in Farrell’s first foray into U SPORTS playoff football. “It’s more important that he believes in himself and that his teammates believe in him, and they absolutely do!”

Farrell has a deep supporting cast including fifth year running back Ryker Frank and fifth year receiver Daniel Wiebe. The Huskies led the conference in points per game and total yards on offense. Defensively the Dogs were number one in interceptions and sacks in eight regular season games.

The Huskies have won five of the last six meetings against UBC, including last year’s semi-final in Vancouver, where U Sask defeated the T-Birds 38-33.
