Another Ram-Huskie confernece title game

Nov 6, 2025 | 7:26 AM

If history is any indication, the 2025 Hardy Cup could be close. The last four Ram-Huskie football battles have been decided by five points or less. On September 19th, USask pulled out a 22-20 win over Regina. In last November’s Hardy Cup, the U of R came out on top 19-14. The teams split their two 2024 regular season meetings with each being decided by less than a touchdown.

As chillier temperatures roll in to Saskatoon this week for Saturday’s 2025 Canada West championship game, both teams will need to establish the run game, and both are capable of it. The Huskies had the best rush/carry number in the conference at 6.5 yards. The Rams were number one in rushing touchdowns in the regular season with 15.

Both teams have had to make major adjustments to their roster. Regina’s run game may have a different look as the conference’s leading rusher, Marshall Erichsen, suffered what appeared to be a serious leg injury in last weekend’s semifinal win over the UBC Thunderbirds. The Huskies go into the title game with a first-year starter, Jake Farrell, who will make just his fifth start of his career on Saturday. Farrell is 4 and 0 in those starts.

Both defenses have big play capability. The Huskies led the conference in interceptions and sacks. Ram defender Liam Labelle had 3.5 sacks this season, while veteran U of R defensive back Carson Sombach had two interceptions for 115 yards.

Huskie head coach, Scott Flory, spoke with HuskieFAN on a Hardy Cup edition of The Coach’s Show.
