Dinos erase early deficit to defeat Huskies

Nov 8, 2025 | 12:34 AM

The Huskies men’s hockey team got the start it wanted but the rest of the game was a different story as the Calgary Dinos scored four unanswered goals to come back and win 4-2 on Friday in Calgary.

The Dinos slowly but surely worked their way back into the contest after falling behind early, and Carter Massier’s goal with just over six minutes left in the third period gave them a lead they would not relinquish en route to their fourth straight victory.

From the outset, it looked like the Dogs would have their day, as Conner Roulette scored his fifth goal of the year to put the visitors in front just 1:38 into the contest and Jarett Penner doubled the lead with his second of the season at the 8:44 mark. The Huskies held a 13-10 shots advantage through one period of play.

But the Dinos stepped up their game in the second and just over three minutes in, after a lengthy shift in the Huskies zone, Carter Massier fired a shot that Gavin Schmidt deflected past Jordan Kooy to get Calgary back within one.

The Huskies had opportunities to restore their cushion later in the frame with back-to-back power plays but failed to generate much in the way of chances and had to settle for a 2-1 lead after forty minutes, and the Dinos struck again early in the third with Connor Horning converting a feed from Adam Kydd to tie the game. With the assist, Kydd extended his season-long point streak to 11 games.

Saskatchewan redoubled its efforts to regain the lead and got a glorious chance to do so midway through the frame as Carter Stebbings got behind the defence and faked goaltender Carl Tetachuk off his feet but his backhand shot clanged off the post. A short time later, Massier pushed the Dinos in front for good, beating his man wide before cutting inside and chipping the puck past Kooy. Kydd completed the scoring with an empty-net goal for his seventh multi-point game this season.

The Dinos outshot the Huskies 33-29 and neither team scored on the power play as USask went 0-for-4 and Calgary was goalless on three opportunities. Kooy absorbed his first loss of the season, while Tetachuk picked up his fifth victory of the year as the Dinos improved to 9-2. The Dogs have lost consecutive games for the first time this season and now sit at 6-3.

Game two of the weekend series gets underway at 6 p.m. MT/ 7 p.m. CT and can be heard on the free HuskieFAN app.
