The Montreal Carabins defeated the USask Huskies 30-16 in the 2025 Vanier Cup at Mosaic Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Carabins quarterback Pepe Gonzalez threw three touchdown passes and passed for 344 yards.

Brandon Gourgon hauled in a 41-yard pass from Gonzalez in the second quarter to give the Carabins an 11-3 lead. Huskie running back Ryker Frank capped off a big drive later in the quarter with a four yard score to cut the Montreal lead to 11-10.

The Carabins defense held the Huskies to the one major in the ball game and to just five second half points. With Montreal ahead 16-14 late in the third quarter, Gonzalez was able to connect with Hassane Dosso on a 32-yard strike as Montreal took a 23-14 lead.

Huskie first-year starting quarterback Jake Farrell, who was making just his seventh U SPORTS start, was held to 229 yards in passing and could not put together scoring drives against Montreal’s experienced defense in the fourth quarter.

The Carabins put the game out of reach when Gonzalez hit Simon Larose on a 7-yard TD toss with 2:22 remaining. Larose was Montreal’s leading receiver with 136 yards.

It was second Vanier Cup in three seasons for the Carabins. For the Huskies, it marked the third time in five years that the team had advanced to the championship game, but fell short.
