Huskies meet U of R Cougars in home and home series

Every team in every sport strives to control its own destiny. With six regular season games to go the Canada West men’s hockey season the USask Huskies are in that category. A first-place finish and a bye to the conference semi-finals is within reach as the Huskies prepare for a home and home series with the Regina Cougars which starts Friday night at Merlis Belsher Place.

Entering the January 30-31 weekend, the Mount Royal Cougars top the east division standings with 36 points with three games remaining. With five games to go, the Calgary Dinos have 34 points, as does Saskatchewan, however the Huskies have six games remaining in the regular season. MRU defeated the U of C 2-1 on Thursday night.

The Huskies, who have not lost in regulation time since November 29th, have won seven of their last eight games with the only blemish in that time coming in a 5-4 OT loss to Mount Royal on January 16th.  Saskatchewan posted 7-4 and 6-2 home ice wins over the Alberta Golden Bears on the January 23-24 weekend.

USask is 4-0 vs the Regina Cougars this season. The U of R is just 3-19 this season. Regina’s last win was on January 16th when they pulled out a 4-3 overtime win over the Alberta Golden Bears in Edmonton.
