Huskie women’s hockey squad battles to stay in the hunt
With four games remaining in the Canada West women’s hockey regular season, the USask Huskies are fighting to stay where they are…in a playoff spot. The team enters the February 6th-7th weekend in third place in the east division, one point up on the Manitoba Bisons. The Huskies visit the Calgary Dinos before wrapping up the regular season against Mount Royal on February 13th and 14th.
The Huskies have 25 points while the Bisons have 24. Manitoba faces a Regina Cougar team this weekend that still has a chance at a playoff spot. The Cougars have 20 points with four regular season games remaining.
Saskatchewan collected three of a possible four points last weekend against the Regina Cougars after a 4-1 win and 3-2 shootout loss. Jayde Cadieux and Kahlen Wisener each had two goals in the two-game series while veteran Avery Gottselig had two assists. Head coach Steve Kook says a fourth line of younger players including Kasah and Jaiyana Nurani and Ella Clarke have had solid puck presence as of late as well.
Huskie head coach Steve Kook spoke with HuskieFAN about last weekend’s series against the U of R and this weekend’s trip to Calgary.
