High stakes hockey – Dinos at Huskies

Feb 6, 2026 | 10:11 AM

First place is there for the taking for the Huskie men’s hockey team this weekend. With four games remaining, USask sits two points back of idle Mount Royal for top spot in the Canada West, east division standings.

In what will be ‘must see hockey’, the Calgary Dinos visit the Huskies in a two-game series at Merlis Belsher Place on February 6th and 7th. It’s almost as if the schedule maker knew something when this seasons’ slate was finalized last summer as the U of C is also very much in the mix.

With two games remaining (18-6-1-1), Mount Royal has 38 points, the (17-5-1-1) Huskies have 36 points with four games left, while (17-6-1) Calgary sits with 35 with four games to go in their regular season. A first-place finish means a bye to the league semi-finals. A second-place finish in the division means home ice advantage for the first round of the Canada West playoffs.

After being upset by the four-win Regina Cougars on January 30th by a score of 5-4, the Huskies rebounded with a 4-0 shutout win over the U of R on February 1st in Regina. First-year goaltender Bryan Thompson earned the shutout and now has the best save percentage in the conference. Forward Connor Roulette scored once in the Sunday win and leads all rookie scorers with 31 points in 24 games.

The Dinos defeated the Huskies 4-2 on November 7th and 3-2 in a shootout on November 8th in the teams’ only other meeting this season at Father David Bauer Arena. Veteran forward Adam Kydd is second in league scoring with 39 points, while goalie Carl Stankowski has the second-best goals against average at 2.28.

Huskie head coach Brandin Cote chatted with HuskieFAN about the Regina series split, upcoming games against the Dinos. and the stretch drive in the regular season.
