Playoff basketball starts, regular season hockey comes to a close

The defending U Sports women’s basketball champions begin their 2026 playoff run on Saturday afternoon at 5:00 PM in the Canada West quarterfinals at the PAC. The 20-0 University of Saskatchewan Huskies will host either the Fraser Valley Cascades or the Mount Royal Cougars.

Fraser Valley and Mount Royal will meet in a play-in game on Friday at 5:00 PM at the PAC to determine which team will face the Huskies. The Cascades finished with a 13-7 record in the Pacific division while the Cougars finished with a 13-7 Prairie division record.

The USask women’s hockey team will fight to finish in sole possession of third spot in the Canada West east division standings this season as they host the Mount Royal Cougars at Merlis Belsher Place on February 13th and 14th  in the final weekend of regular season play.  

Saskatchewan and Manitoba are tied for the third and final playoff spot in the east division with 28 points each. The 18-6-1-1 Cougars are in top spot in the west division.

Friday’s game starts at 7:00 PM at Merlis Belsher Place, while puck drop on Saturday is at 5:00 PM.
