Huskies need wins over MRU to secure Canada West playoff spot
To be (in the playoffs) or not to be (in the playoffs). The answer to that question comes down to the last regular season weekend for the Huskie women’s hockey team as they host the Mount Royal Cougars on February 13th and 14th at Merlis Belsher Place.
The USask Huskies and Manitoba Bisons are tied for the final post season position in the Canada West, east division with 38 points apiece. While Saskatchewan faces an MRU team that is in first place, the Bisons finish the season with a two-game series against the Calgary Dinos.
Despite winning eight road games and just three home games this season, Huskie head coach Steve Kook is happy to have to his team be at Merlis Belsher Place for the final weekend of the regular season with so much at stake. “We control a lot of things. We control last change and we control our situation”, Kook said.
Veteran goaltender Colby Wilson will get the start in the first game of the series on Friday night. The graduating Huskie has a 2.26 goals against average this season and has played in 16 of Saskatchewan’s 26 games this season.
