A Huskie-Cougar CW title rematch
In a repeat of the 2025 Canada West men’s hockey championship, the USask Huskies and Mount Royal Cougars will meet for the 2026 banner in a best-of-three series that starts Friday in Calgary. Not much separates these teams when you look at the 2025-26 Canada West regular seasons.
The Cougars won 20 of 28 regular season games, while Saskatchewan won 19. MRU sniper Connor Bouchard was third in league scoring with 39 points while USask fifth year forward, Chantz Petruic, had 37. Brett Mirwald of the Cougars had the best goals against average of qualified goalies. (2.27) Nolan Maier has an impressive1.20 goals against average in Saskatchewan’s four playoff games to date.
Mount Royal won four of six meetings against the Huskies in the regular season with three of the contests decided by one goal. MRU defeated the Saskatchewan 3-2 and 6-4 on the February 13th-14th weekend to help secure top spot in the Canada West, east division standings.
USask clinched last season’s best-of-three final with a 3-0 shutout victory over Mount Royal in the deciding game at Merlis Belsher Place. Returnees Petruic, Jarett Penner and Ethan Regnier all put their names on the scoresheet in the win.
