“It’s going to be a fun summer” – Jamie Campell
Before starting his fifth season as USask men’s basketball head coach in the fall of 2026, Jamie Campbell will be busy serving as an assistant coach with Saskatoon’s newly branded CEBL team, the Mamba “I ask our players to grow every summer, that means I need to grow myself”, said Campbell. “I will get to work with the professional athletes on this team, and this will provide me with some great learning opportunities.”
There will be a large Huskie influence on the Mamba. Last week head coach Isiah Fox also added former Huskie player and head coach, Greg Jockims, and former USask player Rob Lovelace to the staff. When asked to describe his relationship with the other coaches, Campbell said it’s growing. “I obviously know Rob and Greg more than Isaiah but all three are great guys”, he said. “I think it will be a really fun summer. From our calls so far, I am excited to get started with them in a few weeks.” Former Huskie players Easton Thimm and Mohamed Mahadhi are also on the Mamba roster.
This isn’t Campbell’s first affiliation with the CEBL. He served as an assistant with the Ottawa BlackJacks in 2020. He says U SPORTS greatly benefits from having the CEBL operating in Canada since its launch in 2017. “The beneficial area is player development”, he said. “We have seen the growth of U SPORTS players who have taken advantage of their summers being apart of the CEBL. “I know there are going to be more benefits to this partnership. I am just looking forward to seeing them unfold as we work closely together again this season and into the future.”
Fox, who was named Saskatoon’s head coach on March 5th, and his coaching staff will try to improve on the Saskatchewan Rattlers’ 7 and 17 record from a year ago. The Mamba kicks off the 2026 season on Thursday May 14th, when the Vancouver Bandits visit SaskTel Centre.
