The 2026-27 Canada West women’s basketball season tips off on Oct. 23 with an opening night showdown between a pair of provincial rivals as Winnipeg visits Brandon, then continues the next night as UNBC welcomes Thompson Rivers.

The schedule kicks into full gear on the October 30th-31st weekend with a full slate of games highlighted by Saskatchewan visiting Calgary in a rematch of last year’s women’s semifinal stunner. After a perfect 20-0, 2025-26 conference regular season, the USask women’s squad defeated Fraser Valley in the conference quarterfinals before falling to the Dinos 61-58 in the semi-finals at the PAC. The U of C then went on to defeat the UBC Thunderbirds for the 2026 Canada West title.

The Huskies, however, still had the final word on the national stage. After seeing their two-year Canada West title streak snapped, Saskatchewan responded by repeating as U SPORTS champions with a 77-68 win over UNB in the national final.

On the men’s side, the Victoria Vikes returned to the top of the Canada West mountain last season, capturing their fourth conference title in five seasons with a win over UBC in the Canada West final.

The USask men’s team looks to improve upon a 5-15 record from last season. After opening the regular season in Calgary on the October 30th-31st weekend, the Huskies’ home opener is set for November 6th at 12:30 PM at the PAC against the Manitoba Bisons.

The men have a number of exhibition games planned at the PAC prior to the start of the regular season including the Ron and Jane Graham shootout set for October 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

The road to a national championship will lead to Halifax this season, as the Scotiabank Centre hosts both the 2027 U SPORTS Men’s and Women’s Final 8 Basketball Championships in early March. The women’s tournament will be hosted by Acadia University, while Dalhousie University will serve as host of the men’s championship.
