Huskies win sixth straight Homecoming Game

It was a return to form for the USask Huskies at Griffiths Stadium on Friday night as the home side posted a 44-24 win over the Calgary Dinos in the annual Homecoming game. The crowd was on its feet early when Javin Boynton scored on an 81-yard run in the first minute and a half of the football game. After the Dinos cashed in on an Evan Smith touchdown catch to make it 8-7, Saskatchewan made a statement in the second quarter.

After being outscored 21-1 in the second quarter of a week one loss to Manitoba, the Huskies rallied before half. Thomas Jule hauled in a three-yard pass from Anton Amundrud with 12:21 left to go, then Javin Boynton scored his second touchdown of the game on a one-yard plunge with 3:41 remaining to give Saskatchewan a 21-10 lead

Amundrud, who reached a school milestone with his 500th career completion as a Huskie quarterback, found first year pass catcher Keaton Belsher on a 21-yard TD play early in the third quarter as Saskatchewan took an 18-point advantage.

Dino quarterback David Jordan led his team to within striking distance when he connected with Pascale Delmonaco with 4:41 left to make it a 28-17 game. On the last play of the third quarter, Jordan hit Matt Sibley on a 52-yard TD pass play and Saskatchewan’s lead was down to 28-24.
