Huskies visit Rams in lone 2026 meeting

On the heels of a 65-12 blowout win over the Alberta Golden Bears on September 18th, the 2 and 1 Huskie football team now gears up for its one and only seasonal meeting with the provincial rival, Regina Rams on Saturday, September 26th at Mosaic Stadium.

Despite a 53-point win over the Bears, Flory admitted that there are some things his team can clean up. “It’s always the good the bad and ugly”, he said. “The good was the opportunistic nature of our team. The bad was there are second and two’s we should be converting, and we are off the field. Things like that, I don’t like. We have to be cleaner.”

Quarterback Anton Amundrud is climbing up the school’s all-time passing list in many categories. He is one TD toss away from becoming the fifth quarterback in Huskie history to throw for 50 career touchdown passes. The Lloydminster product is also 277 yards away from moving ahead of Doug Siemens for fourth on the all-time passing list. “You just see him getting better and better with the rhythm of the game”. Flory said.

The Rams fell to 2 and 1 after a September 18th, 25-20 loss to the UBC Thunderbirds in Vancouver. Regina is very stingy on defense, allowing opposing teams to fewer than 14 points per game. The Huskies know they will have to be mindful of U of R veteran defensive back Carson Sombach along with linebackers Sheldon Wong and Owen Zimmer. “Their defense is very good”, said Flory. “Sheldon (Defensive coordinator, Sheldon Gray) is going to have them in the right spot. When we have a chance for a big play, we can’t miss.”

The Rams, who are ranked seventh in the country, lead the conference with 51 rush attempts. Veteran tailback Christian Katende has had two 100-yard ground games so far this season. When asked about his defence Flory said, “We need to be gap sound and tackle. It just comes down to structural integrity.”
