U of S men’s volleyball and basketball teams advance

Men’s Basketball

The Huskies have advanced to the Canada West Final Four, following an 88-87 win over the UBC Thunderbirds in the first round of the playoffs in Lethbridge. The University of Saskatchewan had an impressive 33 point second quarter, and fought off a hard charging Thunderbirds team in the second half for the win. Marquavian Stephens had 20 points for the Huskies, while Chan De Ciman poured in 19.

The Canada West Final Four runs from March 18th-20th at the University of Alberta.

Men’s Volleyball

The Huskies beat the Fraser Valley Cascades in three sets on Saturday night in Edmonton, (25-19, 25-18, 25-20) and now advance to the second round of the Canada West playoffs. Levi Olson had 11 kills, while Skyler Varga had 7 kills and 2 service aces.

The University of Saskatchewan finished 2 and 1 in Pool B, defeating UBC 3-2 in their opening match on Thursday before suffering a 3-0 loss to Alberta Friday.

Round two of the playoffs runs from March 18th to the 20th.

Women’s Volleyball

The Huskies’ season is over after a 3-0 Saturday night defeat at the hands of Mount Royal. (25-14, 25-17, 25-21) Fifth year outside hitter Emily Koshinski had 15 kills and 3 service aces for the University of Saskatchewan.

The Huskies opened the weekend with a Thursday 3-1 win over Manitoba, but lost to UBC-Okanagan 3-1 on Friday before Saturday night’s loss to Mount Royal.

The Mount Royal Cougars and the UBCO Heat advance out of Pool C to the next round of the playoffs.
