Huskies remain undefeated with win over Rams
No touchdowns, no problem. Despite being held to its lowest offensive output of the season, the U of S Huskies still found a way to keep an undefeated record in tact with a thrilling 11-10 win over the Regina Rams on Saturday night in front of over 7,000 fans at Mosaic Stadium. 5th year kicker David Solie booted a 32 yard field goal with two seconds left to lift the visitors to victory.
Holder Cam Skinner was asked if there was any additional stress with the game on the line. “I don’t think so”, Skinner said. “The three of us (including long snapper Dayton Black and Solie) are used to it. We do it all the time in practice.” Solie, who was good on 3 of 4 field goal attempts on the night, gave the Huskies their first lead of the game in the final minute of the third quarter. Solie’s 38 yard field goal lifted the Huskies to an 8-7 advantage.
The game stayed that way until the late stages of the fourth quarter when Rams kicker Aldo Galvan capped off a 10 play, 94 yard drive with a 19 yard field goal to give the help the Rams take a 10-8 lead. The Huskies then went to work, with under 2 minutes on the clock, putting a 49 yard drive together, which included a 15 yard by running back Ryker Frank. That set the stage for Solie’s winning kick.
The Rams scored on the first offensive play from scrimmage after recovering their own kick off. D’Sean Mimbs caught a 29 yard pass from Regina quarterback Noah Pelletier. It was the games only touchdown. Pelletier finished the night with 201 yards passing. Saskatchewan quarterback Mason Nyhus went 24 for 36 for 279 yards.
