U of S Chief Athletics Officer among many preparing for 2022 Hardy Cup
The weather may be cold but tickets to Saturday’s Hardy Cup game are hot. The excitement is building on the U of S campus, in Saskatoon and in central Saskatchewan as playoff football continues in the province. The Huskies host the UBC Thunderbirds in the 85th edition of the Hardy Cup on Saturday at 1pm at Griffiths Stadium. Saskatchewan is making its fourth straight appearance in the Canada West championship game.
Led by a 103 yard ground game from back up quarterback Ethan Watson, the Huskies defeated Manitoba 37-9 at Griffiths Stadium in one of the Hardy Cup semi-final games last Saturday. Watson scored two touchdowns, including one on a 56 yard sprint to the end zone in the fourth quarter.
The Thunderbirds doubled the Rams 28-14 in the other November 5th semi-final at Mosaic Stadium. Five different T-Birds combined for 176 yards in receiving, while Dane Kapler had 71 yards in rushing and one touchdown.
UBC and Saskatchewan split a pair of 2022 regular season meetings. On September 9th, Saskatchewan defeated UBC 29-10 at the U of S campus. The Thunderbirds responded with a 35-29 win over the Huskies in Vancouver on October 22nd.
