Huskies Alberta bound for key weekend series with Golden Bears

“We are still in a good spot,” said Cote.

“We’re not playing terrible. Defensively, I think we were pretty sound in our own zone. We didn’t take a lot of penalties. Our discipline was really good, yet we played physical.”

Four of the Huskies’ final six games on the schedule are against teams higher in the standings. Saskatchewan wraps up its regular season on the February 10-11 weekend against the first place Mount Royal Cougars.

“The parity in the league is unreal,” said Huskie head coach Brandin Cote. Nine points separate the top five teams in the conference.

“It’s anyone’s game. You can never take a minute off if you want to get to where you want to go.”

The Golden Bears defeated last place Trinity Western Spartans in a pair of games last weekend but were beaten by the first place Mount Royal Cougars 6-5 and 4-2 on January 6 and 7.

The Bears are led by former Calgary Hitmen forward Josh Prokop, who has 31 points in 22 games this season.

“They are a high flying team”, said Cote. “In my mind they have the most skill in the conference…the most depth up front.”

The Huskies and Bears each won one in a two game series earlier this season. Saskatchewan beat Alberta 5-2 on October 21 at Merlis Belsher Place. The Golden Bears responded with a 2-1 win the next night.
