Four sports for everybody
There will be lots of athletes and lots of team buses on the U of S campus for the October 20-21-22 weekend. Volleyball, soccer, hockey and football provide lots of options for sports fans.
The Huskie volleyball teams host Brandon in Friday and Saturday matches at the PAC. Saskatchewan’s men’s team finished in 4th place last season with a 17 and 7 record. This season the U of S was ranked 8th in the pre-season coach’s poll. Coach Sean McKay is dealing with some noticeable turnover on his roster. Star outside hitter Dylan Mortensen is among a number of players who have graduated from the program.
“He (Mortensen) and Levi (Olson) probably combined for 8 to 10 points a set,” said McKay. “Anytime there is turnover, there are issues, but also positives that come with that. To replace those players, we will probably be going to more of a sprinkle effect.”
McKay was asked to highlight some of the players that will have an increased presence this season. “Lucas Musschoot (2nd year/6’8”) is a young middle. He’ll carry a bigger role. Jefferson Morrow (4th year outside hitter) and Isiah Mamer (2nd year outside hitter) will see increased volume. It won’t be one person doing it all.”
