Huskies look ahead to 2024-25 season

Jul 2, 2024 | 10:11 AM

Huskie men’s volleyball coach, Sean McKay, has plenty to be optimistic about going into the 2024-25 Canada West season. There will be no shortage of experience and there may be little turnover on Saskatchewan’s roster. Saskatchewan was 16 and 8 before losing out to UBC in the Canada West quarter-finals. The Alberta Golden Bears claimed both the Canada West and U SPORTS titles.

The U of S men’s team will begin its 2024-25 campaign on November 1st and 2nd when the Mount Royal Cougars visit the PAC. The Friday matches start at 8:00 pm with play starting Saturday at 5:00 pm.

The Huskie women’s volleyball team begins its season on October 18th and 19th when the provincial rival Regina Cougars visit the U of S campus. The first serve on Friday is at 6:00 pm, action on Saturday starts at 3:00 pm. (Saskatchewan is coming off of an 8-16 record from last season and missed the 2023-24 playoffs.)

The Manitoba Bisons are the defending Canada West champions, while UBC claimed the 2024 U SPORTS banner after an impressive 22-2 regular season.

The Canada West playoffs will then begin on February 21 featuring a new format for the 2025 postseason. Teams finishing 7-10th in the conference standings will face off in best-of-three playoff series before the quarter-final round begins on February 28. The remaining four teams will then compete in a single-eliminated Final Four format to determine the latest Canada West champion and who earns a spot in the 2025 U SPORTS Volleyball Championships taking place in Brandon (Men) and Winnipeg (Women).
