After a 1 and 3 start to the season the Huskies have a chance to move above .500 for the first time in 2024 as the Regina Rams visit Griffiths Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Saskatchewan has reeled off back-to-back wins, including a convincing 42-24 victory over previously unbeaten Manitoba on October 4th. “I think what we are getting better at is believing and trusting in ourselves,” said head coach Scott Flory.
“Sometimes you have to get punched in the mouth before you realize how much you have in you to fight back”, he added. “I think our team is starting to realize that they can trust each other and that builds confidence.”
After starting the season with two victories, the Rams have lost four in a row. “I think they’ve had some injuries”, Flory said. The Rams, who beat the Huskies 33-28 back on September 6th at Mosaic Stadium, are 2 and 4 with two games remaining in the Canada West regular season. “They’re a good football team”, Flory added. “We know they are physical; they’re going to run down to stuff, they’re going to tackle and take some shots.”
A potent Huskie offense prepares for a formidable opponent. The Ram defense has been solid with eight sacks and eight interceptions in six games. Regina has the second-best points against total in the conference, (22.1/game) while the Huskies have put more points per game than any other team in the league. (32.5/game) U of S quarterback Anton Amundrud leads the conference in completion percentage and touchdown passes. “For games like this it comes down to opportunities, eliminating mistakes and execution”, Flory said.
