A tight 2-point win
One of the oldest sayings in sports applies to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies; “a win is a win.” The Huskies pulled out a 22-20 victory over the Regina Rams at Griffiths Stadium on Saturday afternoon. A team, known for putting up points, scored just one touchdown in the first half and one in the second half on their way to victory. Saskatchewan scored the first touchdown of the game in the opening quarter when running back Ryker Frank capped off a 94-yard drive with a one-year run. Frank set a school record with his 21st career touchdown.
The Huskies didn’t score a second quarter point allowing Regina to climb back into the football game. Ram kicker Isaac Wegner kicked a pair of 28-yard field goals to help give Regina a 10-8 lead at the break.
With the score 14-12 in the fourth quarter, the Huskies put up 10 straight points. After a Lukas Scott field goal, receiver Daniel Wiebe hauled in a 22-yard pass from U of S quarterback Anton Amundrud, capping off a 6-play 65-yard drive. Trailing 22-12, the Rams found the end-zone for the first time with 2:12 remaining as Noah Pelletier tossed a touchdown pass to Emmett Steadman. The Huskies were able to run out the clock with their final possession of the contest.
Regina’s defense had two interceptions but could not capitalize. Amundrud had 278 yards in passing, while Pelletier threw for 235 yards for the Rams with one interception to Huskie defensive back Aidan Sommacal. Veteran Saskatchewan linebacker, Seth Hundeby, had a sack.
