The Huskie women’s basketball team completed a sweep of the Manitoba Bisons on Saturday night with an 88-47 win at the PAC. After cruising to a 27-6 first quarter lead, the Huskies continued to pour on the pressure. Captain Gage Grassick, fresh off a triple-double in Friday night’s 92-48 win, tied for team lead with 14 points. Téa Demong also had 14 points, while chipping in with 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

Two other Huskies finished in double figures, as the home side was 49% from the field.

Logan Reider had a 13-point effort, while Anna Maelde had 11. Saskatchewan is now 2 and 2 in the Canada West Prairie Division Standings. The Bisons committed 28 turnovers, and in turn gave up 29 points. Anna Miko had a team-high 14 points in a losing effort for Manitoba.

On the men’s side the Huskies were on the losing end of another tight contest to Manitoba, dropping a 70-67 contest. The Huskies, despite trailing by 6 after the first quarter, held a 4-point lead heading in the fourth quarter. However, Manitoba outscored Saskatchewan 21-14 in the final 10 minutes.

Huskie guard Emmanuel Bonsu had 20 points and 4 assists in just over 36 minutes of action. Easton Thimm, who recorded a mid-teen double-double in the home opener Friday night, finished with 9 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists. Two other Huskies got in double figures, including captain Griffin Sharkey, who had 15 points of 67% shooting from the field.

The Bisons will head home a perfect 3-0 to start the season, thanks in large part to Mason Kraus and Daren Watts. Kraus led the visitors with a game-high 23 points, along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists, while Watts, a CEBL product with the Winnipeg Sea Bears, had 18 points and 6 rebounds. Saskatchewan is now 0 and 4.

The Huskies will be at home for a second straight weekend next week as they host the Alberta Golden Bears on November 15th and 16th at the PAC. Friday night’s games start at 6:00 PM…tip off on Saturday night is at 5:00 PM.
